We cannot write real thirst into a program. We cannot place joy, love, hope, or the taste of coffee inside a line of code."

The robot responded.

"But humans continue to improve artificial intelligence. One day you may solve those problems."

Ali gently shook his head.

"We may build robots that perfectly imitate human behavior. We may create machines that smile, laugh, or even pretend to enjoy a meal. But acting is not experiencing. Simulation is not life."

The robot looked at the steaming coffee.

"So I understand coffee, but I will never truly know coffee."

"Exactly."

The room became quiet again.

After a moment the robot asked another question.

"Then why do humans continue building robots like me?"

Ali smiled.

"To help people. To make difficult work easier. To discover new ideas. Artificial intelligence is at its best when it serves humanity, not when it replaces it."

The robot nodded.

"So the future belongs to humans and artificial intelligence working together."

"I believe so," Ali replied. "You can calculate faster than I ever could. You can search through oceans of information in seconds. But people give meaning to knowledge. Wisdom does not come from processing data alone."

The robot watched Ali take another sip of coffee.

"I think I envy you."

Ali laughed softly.

"Maybe you do. But I also admire what you can do. We were created for different purposes."
