The Voice of Cappadocia
Hello, my friend.
If one day your journey brings you to the ancient lands of Nevşehir in the heart of Türkiye, I hope you will come and spend some time with me.
I am Cappadocia.
I have been here for millions of years.
Before people knew my name, volcanoes covered this land with ash and lava.
Then came the wind, the rain, the snow, and the passing of time.
Patiently, they sculpted my valleys into the fairy chimneys that have become one of the world's most extraordinary landscapes.
Nature was my first artist.
Long before the Romans, the Byzantines, or the Seljuks walked across my valleys, people had already discovered that my soft volcanic rock could become a home.
Generation after generation carved houses, churches, monasteries, and entire underground cities into my hills.
When danger arrived, families disappeared beneath the ground, carrying their hopes, their faith, and their children into the safety of hidden chambers.
I have welcomed the Hittites.
I have watched the Persians cross these lands.
I listened as Greek became the language of many towns.
I witnessed Roman roads connecting distant worlds.
I protected early Christians who worshipped in silence within churches carved into my rocks.
Centuries later, the Seljuks and the Ottomans added their own stories to mine.
Every civilization left something behind.
Not only stones.
Memories.
Today, visitors look toward my skies and admire the colorful hot air balloons floating above my valleys at sunrise.
They are beautiful.
But they are only the newest chapter of a story that began millions of years ago.
When you visit me, do not count how many fairy chimneys you see.
Instead, wonder how many generations have watched the same sunrise from these valleys.
I am Cappadocia.
I do not ask you to remember every date.
I simply hope you will remember how this place made you feel.
