When the Forest Catches Fire

As the ArticleCorner Animals team, we entered a quiet forest to learn more about the animals living in nature. Under the trees, we met a squirrel, a bear, and a wolf. They each live in different ways, but they share the same home: the forest. This time, they wanted to tell us about something they fear deeply. Forest fires.

🐿️ The Squirrel
I spend most of my time climbing trees, searching for food, and hiding seeds for later. The forest gives me everything I need. But when a fire starts, the trees that protect me can become dangerous within minutes. I have nowhere to hide, and the ground can become too hot for me to escape safely. For a small animal like me, a forest fire can mean losing everything.

🐻 The Bear
I need a large area to find food, raise my young, and move freely. The forest is my home. When fire destroys it, I lose the places where I find food and shelter. My young may become frightened, and we may have to travel far away to survive. A forest does not recover overnight. Sometimes, the home we lose today may take many years to return.

🐺 The Wolf
I live with my pack and depend on the forest for food, shelter, and protection. I know how to survive in difficult conditions. But a forest fire is different. Fire does not choose between strong and weak. It can destroy trees, nests, burrows, food, and hiding places. When our habitat disappears, we are forced to move into unfamiliar areas. Sometimes that brings us closer to humans, not because we want to, but because we have nowhere else to go.

🔥 Their Common Fear
The squirrel, bear, and wolf are very different animals. But they all share one fear: Losing their home to fire. A small careless action can become a disaster. A cigarette thrown onto dry ground, an unattended fire, or a spark left behind can put an entire forest at risk.

For us, a forest may simply be a place we visit. For them, it is where they are born, find food, raise their young, and live their entire lives.

Before you leave a forest, look around. Make sure you leave nothing behind that could start a fire. Because when a forest burns, animals do not simply lose trees. They lose their home.
