Meet Your Heart
Hello. I'm Your Heart.
Yes... I'm talking to all of you.
We've been together since the very beginning.
Long before you learned your name.
Long before you spoke your first word.
Long before you understood what love, fear, hope, or loss could mean.
I was already here.
I am your heart.
Many people think they know me.
They see me as nothing more than a muscular organ whose only job is to circulate blood.
That is certainly one of my greatest responsibilities.
But it is far from my entire story.
Every day, I quietly beat more than one hundred thousand times.
With every beat, I deliver oxygen and nutrients to nearly every cell in your body, sustaining the life you rarely stop to think about.
Without applause.
Without recognition.
Without ever asking for a moment of rest.
While you are asleep...
I stay awake.
While your mind wanders...
I remain focused.
While you celebrate your happiest moments...
Or carry your deepest sorrows...
I never stop.
Not for a second.
You often say,
"My heart is broken."
"My heart is racing."
"My heart feels heavy."
I hear those words every day.
Because somehow...
Humans chose me to represent what cannot be measured.
Love.
Courage.
Hope.
Compassion.
Grief.
Even though those feelings are created in your brain...
You chose me as their symbol.
And honestly...
I wear that responsibility with pride.
When you fall in love...
I don't create the feeling.
But I certainly join the celebration.
I beat faster.
I send more blood.
Your hands grow warm.
Your face begins to glow.
Your entire body knows that something extraordinary is happening.
When fear arrives...
I respond just as quickly.
I prepare your body to survive.
Faster beats.
Stronger contractions.
More oxygen.
More energy.
Because for millions of years...
Keeping you alive has always been my first responsibility.
But there is something I wish you understood.
I do not know whether today is Monday or Sunday.
I do not know how much money you have.
I do not care how many followers you gained this week.
None of those things change the rhythm I give you.
To me...
Every heartbeat is equal.
Every heartbeat is precious.
Every heartbeat is another chance.
You measure life in years.
I measure it in heartbeats.
And every beat I give you...
Is a reminder that life is happening right now.
Not yesterday.
Not tomorrow.
Now.
Scientific Perspective
Although the heart is often associated with love and emotion, its primary role is biological. The human heart is a powerful muscular organ that beats about 100,000 times each day, pumping roughly 7,500 liters (about 2,000 gallons) of blood throughout the body. Its natural pacemaker, known as the sinoatrial (SA) node, generates electrical impulses that coordinate each heartbeat.
These beats deliver oxygen and nutrients to every organ while removing waste products. Although emotions are primarily processed by the brain, they can influence heart rate through the autonomic nervous system, explaining why fear, excitement, stress, and joy are often felt as changes in the heartbeat. The heart and brain are constantly communicating, working together to support both physical survival and emotional well being.
