Istanbul Speaks
Hello.
I am Istanbul.
For thousands of years I have stood where continents meet.
Empires rose before me and disappeared into history. Kings dreamed of me. Poets wrote about me. Artists painted me. Yet every new sunrise brings me another story to keep.
At dawn I hear the first ferry crossing the Bosphorus.
In Eminönü I watch people sharing pieces of simit with the seagulls.
Galata Tower quietly watches over me. It has stood for centuries, welcoming new faces every single day.
The Maiden's Tower waits gracefully in the middle of the Bosphorus. It listens to every legend told about it and whispers only to the waves.
Then there is Hagia Sophia.
Its timeless elegance reminds every visitor that true greatness never asks to be noticed.
Dolmabahçe Palace greets every passing ship with quiet dignity, as if welcoming an honored guest.
Istiklal Avenue never grows tired.
Every day thousands of footsteps write new stories across its stones.
Someone falls in love for the first time.
Someone rushes to a job interview.
Someone walks alone.
Someone searches for memories they thought were lost.
People often tell me I am too crowded.
They are right.
My traffic can test your patience.
The sound of horns fills my streets.
Many spend hours on my roads.
But do you know what I really carry?
Dreams.
Every morning millions of people leave their homes carrying hope.
Some hope for a new job.
Some hope for a university education.
Some hope to find love.
Some simply hope for a better day.
I witness them all.
I see children on their first day of school.
I see elderly couples walking hand in hand.
I hear musicians filling my streets with hope.
I watch strangers helping strangers without expecting anything in return.
When evening comes the Bosphorus grows calm once again.
The bridges begin to shine.
The ferries sound their final horns.
And I quietly prepare for another day filled with millions of new stories.
I am not just a city.
I am a living memory where history and tomorrow walk side by side.
If one day you visit me, slow your pace.
Perhaps I will tell you a story that no guidebook ever could.

Someone once asked me,
"How would you describe Istanbul?"
I smiled and answered,

Its traffic teaches patience.
Its ferries teach peace.
Its history teaches humility.
