Three Guests on the Savanna
As the ArticleCorner Animals team, we went on a journey across the savanna. After a while, an elephant, a giraffe, and a zebra came toward us.
They thought we were documentary filmmakers. People often film them, follow them, and watch their lives from close by.
But they simply want to live freely in their own habitat.
First, the elephant spoke.
🐘 The Elephant
I am an elephant. I am strong, but I would rather spend my time with my family than show my strength. I have a strong memory. I do not easily forget what I experience or how I am treated.
I understand that people are curious about us. But being watched all the time makes me uncomfortable. Sometimes I simply want to walk, drink water, and spend a quiet day with my family.
For me, freedom means being able to walk my own path without anyone following me.
🦒 The Giraffe
I am a giraffe. Because I am tall, I can see what is happening around me from far away. I am a peaceful animal, and I enjoy quietness.
When people see me, they often immediately take out their cameras. Sometimes dozens of eyes are suddenly watching me at the same time.
Being noticed may be nice. But being watched constantly is something different.
Sometimes I just want to be somewhere no one is watching me, eating, resting, and living in my own world.
🦓 The Zebra
I am a zebra. I am fast, alert, and I like living with my herd. One of the most important things for me is feeling safe.
If someone followed me all day, watched every move I made, and recorded everything I did, I would not feel comfortable.
Yet when people do this to animals, they often do not think about how it feels from our side.
We feel fear too. We feel uncomfortable too. And sometimes we simply want to walk away.
A Message They Share
The elephant, giraffe, and zebra are very different animals. But they share one feeling:
They do not want to be watched all the time.
Think about it.
If someone followed you all day, watched where you went, and recorded everything you did, how would you feel?
Animal habitats are not our entertainment spaces.
We may want to see animals, learn about them, and take photographs. But they also have the right to feel safe, have space, and live freely.
Sometimes the greatest respect we can give an animal is simply to give it some space.
What Makes These Animals Similar to Us?
Elephant: Forms strong family bonds, protects its young, and responds to loss.
Giraffe: Builds social relationships, carefully observes its surroundings, and reacts to danger.
Zebra: Lives in a herd, stays close to others, and moves together when danger appears.
Perhaps what makes them similar to us is this: they also have bonds, fears, preferences, and a world they call their own.
